1982

Recorded 10/9/82, at the Berklee Performance Center, Boston, MA. Includes music by Michael Hedges, Alex deGrassi, Will Ackerman, and George Winston. Michael’s contributions include “Rickover’s Dream” and “Spare Change” (a live version, with Michael Manring on fretless bass and Liz Story on piano, of the tune that reappeared on Aerial Boundaries as an electronic piece) as well as playing with George Winston on Will Ackerman’s “Hawk Circle.”

Strings of Steel (Europe)

1988

A compilation created for release in Europe to accompany a tour there, this retrospective includes selections from Michael’s Windham Hill albums through 1988.

Music by various Windham Hill artists, including Michael Hedges’ solo harp-guitar arrangement of J. S. Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1 in G major.

 

A Winter’s Solstice III

1990

Music by various Windham Hill artists, including Michael Hedges’ acoustic guitar adaptation of a piano arrangement by E. J. Ulrich of J. S. Bach’s “In Dulci Jubilo.” Ulrich’s piano arrangement appears on Adoration of the Magi.

Windham Hill Guitar Sampler II

Includes performances by Alex deGrassi, David Torn, Michael Hedges, Michael manring, and Tuck Andress. Michael Hedges’ contributions include “Ritual Dance” and a duet arrangement with Michael Manring of George Harrison’s “If I Needed Someone.” Also includes Michael Manring’s incredible solo bass composition “Selene,” only available on this collection.

 

Strings of Steel (South America)

1993

A compilation created for release only in South America to accompany a tour there, this 1993 retrospective includes selections from Michael’s Windham Hill albums through 1993 (both instrumental and vocal), plus three previously unreleased covers: a live recording of “Gimme Shelter,” a tongue-in-cheek live rendition of the Fine Young Cannibals’ hit “She Drives Me Crazy,” and a studio version of The Who’s “Pinball Wizard.”

Traditional Christmas carols as interpreted by various artists, including the Michael Hedges arrangement of “What Child Is This” that appeared as a hidden track on Oracle.

The Renaissance Album

A collection of music from the Renaissance performed by an interesting juxtaposition of early music luminaries and artists from contemporary popular music forms, placing groups like Piffaro and the Baltimore Consort alongside the likes of Ann and Nancy Wilson of 70s supergroup Heart, Hawaiian slack-key guitarist Keola Beamer, Liz Story, George Winston, Michael Hedges and others. Includes Michael’s lighthearted arrangement of Alonso de Mudarra’s 1546 “Fantasia X,” featuring Mindy Rosenfeld on recorder and sopranino recorder.
