The progress made this film been made possible by 100+ Official Sponsors, 1,000+ crowdfunding supporters, grants from foundations, nonprofits, and ticket sales from hundreds of attendees of fundraising events we’ve hosted. Together, we’ve raised HALF of the full $950K documentary budget, which has enabled the filmmakers to make major progress on the film.
That funding has been used to research the story, write a screenplay, review archive footage, complete 18 days of production with a professional film crew and edit more than 45 minutes of scenes for the documentary. It’s helped cover the significant costs of crew travel, production locations, equipment and editing facilities – all to make this film the best it can be!
With this support, we’ve made major progress over the past 4 years:
2022 – Writing & development of a 120 page documentary screenplay, 5 days of early production, editing a 7-minute Fundraising Trailer, pitching potential sponsors and funding organizations.
2023 – Running a full-scale crowdfunding campaign, hosting several fundraising events, completing more than half of production by capturing more than 25 interviews over 13 additional days of filming with a professional crew in California, New York, Oklahoma, Vermont & Tennessee.
2024 – Reviewing 100+ hours of archival footage and audio, creating paper edits for ACT II & III of the film, hosting several fundraising events, organizing and making selects of captured footage, and six months of editing core scenes and segments for the film.
2025 – Completion of more than 45 minutes of edited scenes for the feature documentary. Work-in-progress screening for project advisors. Sponsorship campaign to raise funds for the final phase of production.
To continue work on the film, we need to raise least $250,000.
Will you help us reach this goal by becoming a Sustaining Sponsor?
Your support will enable our filmmaking team complete production & editing on the following schedule:
2026 – Complete production – filming 15-20 days of interviews & visuals with a professional crew in Mendocino, Los Angeles, San Francisco Bay Area, Baltimore and Minneapolis. (cost: $150K)
2026 – Resume editing & complete full rough cut – editing full-time over 6-8 months to assemble a full rough cut of the film, including interviews, archive footage, home movies and performance footage. When complete, we’ll host a private “work-in-progress” screening of the full rough cut to receive feedback from project advisors. (cost: $100K)
2027 – Edit final cut & host film premiere – securing completion funding and/or a distribution partner, completing a fine cut of the film and submitting to top-tier international film festivals. When it is complete, we’ll host a private “sneak preview” – a premiere screening and reception for all ORACLE sponsors & crowdfunding supporters before the film’s official release & screening tour.

“What an honor to be able to donate to this wonderful documentary for such an incredible human. I can’t even begin to explain the impact Michael had on our lives. My brother and I wanted to show our love and appreciation to our father, Thom Snyder, who introduced us to Michael and his music at an early age. He even took us to our first concert at The Mann in Philly in 1986, with William Ackerman, Shadowfax, and the great Michael Hedges. Thank you for making music such an important part of our lives.”
